The Rowan Tree

The Rowan Tree have come a long way since forming in 2017 at the Pan Celtic festival. They have won multiple awards, performed internationally and have been featured on radio and in press around the world. During 2019 they took on their most ambitious project to date- Kolar’s Gold. The Kolar’s Gold project has seen the band collaborating with 60 musicians in India and Cornwall and has pushed the boundaries of traditional folk music, weaving different musical styles and cultures seamlessly together. The Kolar’s Gold album is an extraordinary achievement for a band that has proven time and again its ability to transcend the defining limits of genre whilst staying true to their passion for representing Cornish music and culture on the international stage.

Richard Trethewey with Freya Jonas and as part of Harbottle and Jonas

As many readers will be aware, I played as part of The Grenaways and then Brother Sea with the very talented Kris Lannen for many years and had many wonderful adventures! Kris recently moved back to Scotland and Brother Sea lives on there!

I feel so lucky to have met some amazing musicians who I now call great friends through playing with both these bands. I am continuing to play as an occasional part of Harbottle and Jonas, adding fiddle and vocals mostly. I am also playing as a duo with Freya Jonas and occasionally with Dave Harbottle too!

Cousin Jack's Theatre - The Mousehole Cat

I have been very fortunate to have been composer, musician and Storm Cat for ‘The Mousehole Cat’ children’s theatre show since 2017 and have enjoyed sell out runs in Mousehole itself each winter as well as touring Cornwall and taking the show to London and then in 2019 on tour to the USA performing in Wisconsin and Minnesota!

In 2020 I have also been involved in Cousin Jack’s latest production Percy Pengelly and the wibble wobble as joint composer with the wonderful Sian Pilley.
